Conditions for scholarships in 2023

1. Initialization

The Commonwealth Scholarships are included in this document's list of all scholarships and grants whose terms and conditions are outlined by Monash University's (Monash) Coursework Scholarships Unit (CSU). Hereafter, the term "scholarships" will refer to both scholarships and grants.

Before accepting your scholarship offer, you must read these Terms and Conditions in their full. These Terms and Restrictions, along with any additional criteria and conditions of your scholarship specified in your scholarship offer or later scholarship agreement, are accepted by you when you accept the scholarship offer. These Terms and Conditions are also included on the CSU website.

You might need to sign an additional agreement in order to get some scholarships. Students must fulfill all requirements stated in the contract, the terms and conditions, and the email containing the scholarship offer. (For instance, the Industry-Based Learning Placement Scholarship for Information Technology).

2 Unit on Coursework Scholarships

The management and administration of all coursework scholarships is under the purview of the CSU.

On the scholarships page, you can submit your own query and browse FAQs as well as get other information. For questions regarding courses, you should first get in touch with your faculty (e.g. transferring courses, intermission etc.).

3. Scholarship payments and value

Although Monash administers scholarships in accordance with these Terms and Conditions, it retains final say over how much money recipients get.

3.1 Worth of a scholarship

Your scholarship offer specifies the overall value of your scholarship. The minimum number of credits needed to complete the degree you are enrolled in at the time you receive your first scholarship payment determines the total award value for scholarships paid in credit points.

Advanced standing is not included in this. Once the full value of your scholarship has been paid to you or you no longer qualify for payment under these Terms and Conditions, your scholarship will be cancelled.

Please see section 3.3 below for details on how your payment is processed.

For details on how your payment is determined, please see section 3.3 below.

3.2 Dates of payment

To be eligible for payment, you must accept your scholarship offer before the deadline specified in your scholarship offer. Instructions on how to get your scholarship money as well as details on when you can anticipate getting it will be communicated to you separately. Your scholarship could be cancelled if the CSU doesn't receive these details by the deadline.

The census date of your units will determine when you receive money.

Dates for unit census payments:

from 16 February to 30 April - Late April/May

from May 1 through September 30 - late September

between October 1 and December 31, late December

Late January, between January 1 and February 15

Note: Some students may qualify for an early payment in March if they get certain scholarships. Payment will be made for all Exchange units (1–60) in January of the following year. Due to the census date coming during the summer payment period, this is the case. Payment for full-year units having a May 2023 census date will be made in May.

3.3 How to calculate your payment
Any payment made to you will be handled in line with one of the calculating procedures listed below, depending on your scholarship. The enrollment specifications described in section 5.2 apply to all alternatives. Calculating credit points
Your scholarship payments are determined by the number of credit points you are enrolled in at the time of application.

For instance, $6000 for a full-time study load (48 credit points) paid annually until the degree's requisite points are attained.

One semester's worth of enrolled credit points is 18.
Payment for the scholarship: $2250 ($6000/48) x 18.

You won't be paid for any courses you take at another institution or that aren't required for your degree (e.g. Diploma of Languages units). Scholarship recipients will not be compensated for any units they completed before to receiving the scholarship, which will start in the first semester (e.g. Summer B). Any failed courses that you have already been paid for and are now obliged to retake, as well as any courses for which you have been given advanced standing, will not be reimbursed.
